Rubber band ligation was an important style of treatment that dated back to ancient times. A thread was used to cut the blood flow in patients and was also used to castrate farm animals. Dr Baisdell recommended that this procedure be revived in 1958 for treatment of hemorrhoids , and in 1963, an inventor by the name of Barron invented an instrument used to apply the bands and the technique and instrument became known as Barron’s Ligature method and the Barron ligator.
Mild hemorrhoids can usually be treated for the superficial symptoms by taking some form of analgesic medication. The underlying causes of the condition can be rectified by making some changes in lifestyle and dietary habits. However this does not always work for some people, either because they do not follow the advice or make the change too late. In these cases, the hemorrhoids or piles can develop to the extent that they do not respond to treatment and, in fact, get worse. In this case alternatives are needed to remedy the problem.
